Judul : TOLERANCE of Trichoderma asperellum ISOLATES to CHEMICAL FUNGICIDE AND THEIR ANTAGONISTIC ACTIVITY AGAINST Phytophthora infestans
Deskripsi : Trichoderma constitute filamentous fungi which are frequently used as a biocontrol agents against plant pathogenic fungi. Tolerance of these fungi to chemical fungicides is being a prerequisite of biocontrol agents for their application in suppress the growth of some soil-borne pathogens. The objectives of this study were to evaluate tolerance of Trichoderma asperellum, local isolates from Batu-East Java to mefenoxam fungicide as well as to identify in-vitro the antagonistic activity of Trichoderma asperellum against plant pathogen i.e. Phytophthora infestans by using dual-culture method. This study was conducted at Department of Biology, Sains and Technology Faculty, Airlangga University - Indonesia, during March and December, 2012. Trichoderma asperellum isolates (TK and TS) were evaluated by in-vitro for their efficacy against Phytophthora infestans and tolerance to 5000 ppm concentration of fungicide. The results showed that the growth of two Trichoderma asperellum isolates (TK and TS) on PDA medium supplemented 5 mL/L mefenoxam up to 67% while their antagonistic activity against Phytophthora infestans in dual-culture were 5,08% and 16,37%. The result is expected would help in selection of potential biocontrol agents. Thus, an integrated approach of chemical and biological methods was conducted to control the growth of Phytophthora infestans.
